Victor Osimhen: “I have to wear mask for rest of my football career”

Victor Osimhen has opened up about why he wears a mask while playing football and why it won’t be leaving his face anytime soon in his career.

Osimhen who scored 31 goals last season for Napoli and led them to their first Scudetto title in 33 years, is widely regarded as one of the most lethal finishers in the world.

The Nigerian striker is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria’s national men’s team, the Super Eagles, and took the time to have a chat with the media — about why he wears masks — which was captured on video .

What Osimhen said

In an interview given to Nigeria’s Brila FM, the 25-year-old revealed that the protective mask he wears on his face during soccer games is something he will have to always wear throughout his career.

Osimhen further stated that this is as a result of the injury he suffered last season against Cagliari, while playing for Napoli in Serie A.

And while receiving treatment for that injury, he had to undergo a facial surgery where screws were implanted in his jaw and face.
