Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has responded to viral comments by Cristiano Ronaldo that the Saudi Pro League is now better than the French Ligue 1.

The retired Belgian soccer star stated that while the Saudi league may have big name players, it does not have big name teams like the French league does.

Cristiano Ronaldo said the Saudi league is now ahead of the French league

Ronaldo who plays for and captains Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr FC, had recently made controversial comments comparing the French Ligue 1’s football standards to that of the Middle Eastern country during an interview at the Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai.

According to CR7, the emerging Saudi league is way better than the renowned French league, a statement which has in turn attracted condemnations from both fans and soccer players round the world.

Eden Hazard disagrees with Ronaldo on his claims

However, in a recent interview, Hazard lambasted Ronaldo over such comments. He stated that the French league is much more competitive than the Saudi league, particularly pointing out that a Ligue 1 team would emerge victorious against any Saudi club, highlighting its depth and quality.

Hazard is quoted as saying (about Ronaldo’s comments):

“I’m not agreeing with him but that’s just an opinion. If you look at the league in Saudi, they have big players, it’s just that they’re not big teams. In France, maybe now they have fewer big players, but they have big teams.”

The former Lille star who made his name in France before signing for Chelsea, also observed that there are no big teams in the Saudi PL, compared to the French league.
