Thousands of fans gathered at Shenzhen Airport to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo and the Al-Nassr team, as their tour of China kicks off.

Ronaldo enjoys massive popularity in China, prompting fans to purchase tickets for the friendly matches early, excited to see the global superstar leading Al-Nassr during their tour of the country.

What happened?

A large number of Chinese fans flooded Shenzhen Airport to welcome the Al-Nassr delegation led by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, chanting Cristiano Ronaldo’s name as they waited.

Several videos making the rounds on the internet, shows a large number of fans who arrived very early at the airport, waiting eagerly for his arrival even before the team’s plane had landed in China.

The 38-year-old has recently won three awards — Best Player in the Middle East, The Fan’s Favorite Player Award and the Maradona Award for Top Scorer of the Year 2023 — at the Globe Soccer Awards.

What’s next for Ronaldo and Al-Nassr?

Al-Nassr is set to commence their tour of the Asian country with a friendly match against Shanghai on January 24, before facing Zhejiang four days later on January 28, 2024.

The Al Nassr delegation in China includes players, such as Ronaldo, Brozović, and Otavio, and also includes Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, who has recently recovered from an injury.

However, some players like Sadio Mané and Seko Fofana are absent due to their participation in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
