“Imagine dribbling an injured player” – Messi blasted by fans after Inter Miami’s win over Red Salt Lake

Lionel Messi incurred the wrath of soccer fans after video footage showed him dribbling over an injured Red Salt Lake player in Inter Miami’s 2-0 win in their opening MLS game.

The 2024 Major League Soccer season got underway on Thursday 24 February 2024, and Lionel Messi played a pivotal role in orchestrating a comfortable 2-0 win for Inter Miami against Red Salt Lake on matchday 1 to start the new season.

However, during the match between Inter Miami and Red Salt Lake, the Argentine superstar was seen chipping the ball over an injured opposition player who was already down on the pitch, much to the annoyance of fans who believe Lionel Messi should have done better than that.

Fans drag Messi heavily for dribbling over injured Red Salt Lake player

Following the incident which was captured on video footage, Lionel Messi suddenly saw himself garner a lot of criticisms and hate from soccer fans round the world.

One fan commented:

“He is finished imagine dribbling an injured player can’t be my idolo”.

Another fan wrote:

Messi be dribbling anything , he even dribbled a injured player FFS

Another said:

Messi be like..No one was hurt during dribbling”.

While another fan added:

“The ref doesn’t even stop the game. This is disgusting behaviour”

Lionel Messi carried Inter Miami to a comfortable win in the MLS

Messi once again showed his immense footballing talent in the MLS opening game, as he carried Inter Miami to a 2-0 win against Red Salt Lake.

The 36-year-old proved his incredible skill as he was pivotal in the buildup to both goals for his side. For the first goal, midfielder Robert Taylor scored in the 36th minute which was assisted by Lionel Messi.

Inter Miami then extended their lead in the second half as Diego Gomez scored the second goal in the 83rd minute, after receiving an assist from Luis Suarez, who had earlier on exchanged passes with Messi in the buildup to the goal.
