Mesut Ozil throws jab at Atletico Madrid over proposed blue card by FIFA

Mesut Ozil

Former Real Madrid and Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, has trolled Spanish side Atletico Madrid after rumors of a new blue card proposed in world football by FIFA went viral.

Recent reports have stated that FIFA intends to introduce a blue card into soccer competitions for offences like tactical fouls and dissent, which will see erring soccer players removed from the pitch for 10 minutes.

Following that, Mesut Ozil quickly took a jab at Atletico Madrid while quoting a post made by a media outlet on X (formerly Twitter) about the proposed blue card.

According to Ozil, if blue cards are introduced in soccer by FIFA, then a club like Atletico Madrid would eventually only play with six players on the pitch at a time.

“So Atletico Madrid will only play with 6 players then?“, he asked.

FIFA has confirmed that it is indeed looking to introduce them into soccer globally, but will take a careful approach that will mean any experimentation will begin at lower levels of the sport.
