Carlo Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti has thrown his backing behind Real Madrid TV, after they gave a scathing criticism of the referee who officiated the derby cup defeat to Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

Los Blancos lost 4-2 to their bitter city rivals in the Spanish Copa del Rey’s Round of 16, but the final scoreline was tagged with plenty of question marks.

What happened

The derby cup game between Real Madrid and city neighbors Atletico, was marred with several controversial decisions made by the referee, leading to a 4-2 win by Atletico Madrid.

And it appears the crew at RMTV weren’t glad about the officiating, and have since dragged referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernandez into the mud.

Many decisions during the game have raised eyebrows and criticisms has also come from both fans and pundits.

What did Ancelotti say?

The Real Madrid manager threw his support behind the club’s in-house TV’s criticism of the referee, while calling it “freedom of speech”.

Carlo Ancelotti was quizzed by journalists at a press briefing, about the criticisms coming from Real Madrid TV following the game. And he responded:

“RMTV’s criticism of the derby’s referee? There is freedom of expression, everyone can do what they want, it’s what has happened, is happening and is going to happen.”
