Guglielmo Vicario and Ivan Toney

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has revealed what he said at full-time to Brentford striker Ivan Toney, after their hard-fought 3-2 win on Wednesday night.

The Italian goalkeeper and the English striker clashed at full-time following Tottenham’s Premier League win, and had an exchange of words which led to teammates coming in to separate the duo.

How the Tottenham vs Brentford game went

Tottenham got a statement win at home against Brentford, coming from behind to secure victory in a 5-goal thriller.

Neal Maupay opened the scoring for Brentford in the first-half, but Destiny Udogie and Brennan Johnson scored twice in two minutes to stage a comeback for Tottenham.

Richardlison sealed the victory with a strike in the 56th minute, before Ivan Toney pulled one back for the visitors in the 67th minute, cementing the final scoreline.

Guglielmo Vicario statement to Ivan Toney

After the final whistle at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium, Toney and Vicario got into a heated confrontation. The duo said words at each other but then, something Guglielmo Vicario said to Ivan Toney has caused several reactions among soccer fans.

The goalkeeper has since revealed what he said to Toney at full-time, in an interview with the media.

Vicario said:

“He was talking to me a lot during the match. When it was over, I just told him I hope he didn’t bet on that result.”

For context, Toney had just finished serving a ban handed to him by the English FA for breaking rules on gambling, which saw him suspended from all football-related activities for 8-months.

Is Vicario’s statement a joke or an insult?

Well, considering the fact that Toney had struggled with a betting habit which landed him in trouble with the FA last year, Vicario saying that was definitely not a joke.

Also, since both players were engaged in a standoff which prompted teammates to separate them so as to avoid an escalation, I think it’s safe to say that Vicario insulted Toney in reference to his recent ban by the English FA over gambling rule breaches.
