“I’d like to play for a top club” – Ivan Toney breaks silence after 8-month FA ban expires

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney has broken his silence following the expiration of his lengthy 8-month ban from playing football by the English FA.

The Brentford striker, 27, was suspended last year by the Football Association for breaking Premier League rules after he engaged in gambling.

“It’s like signing a Premier League striker who can score 20 goals because he’s proved it,” said Brentford manager Thomas Frank regarding Toney’s return.

How Toney reacted to his return to playing football

Ivan Toney celebrated his return to playing professional football once again, by taking to social media to post a gif which shows a prison inmate shouting “I’m free” in excitement.

The Englishman has not played a competitive match since 6 May 2023 for 262 breaches of the FA’s laws on gambling for professional players, and was eventually handed an eight-month ban from all football-related activities.

Toney reveals interest in big club transfer

Toney has also opened up about his interest in moving to a big club anytime soon, if the right offer comes in for his services.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, the 27-year-old disclosed that he would like to play for a top team. According to him:

“It’s obvious I’d like to play for a top club. Everyone wants to play for a top club, fighting for titles and these kind of things. So whether it’s this January, if a club was to come in and pay the right money, then who knows.”
